Vintage Poster – Arrow Collars

This is an Academic Project I made for Illustration Class. We had to re-design a poster for the Iconic Leyendecker’s Arrow Collar Illustrations. I had to use a vintage style, which had to be correlated with the Art Nouveau and Art Deco Aesthetic.

Leyendecker was an iconic illustrator who used to paint the stereotypical white “strong” male while hiding he was homosexual (which wasn’t exactly accepted in the 20s American society).  The inspiration for his characters was in fact his lover Charles A. Beach, a man he secretly lived with for most of his adult life.
For that reason, I decided to choose to portray him with his actual lover instead of choosing the classic female – male figure.
